In January 2020, Quest kicked off its activities with its very first cohort of 10 agencies. Quest is a quality improvement (QI) program based on Lean Six Sigma methodology — offered in partnership with Children's Mental Health Ontario (CMHO).

Selected teams are being coached through an improvement project around the theme of care pathways. Projects have been chosen based on their potential for system-level impact.

Meet our first cohort:

  • Pathstone Mental Health (St. Catharines) — Creating efficacious care pathways to mental health services for children or youth who engage in high-risk behaviours to self or others

  • Youthdale Treatment Centre (Toronto) — Streamlining the intake process

  • Chatham-Kent Childrens' Services (Chatham) — Youth justice care pathway

  • Lynwood Charlton Centre (Hamilton) — Improving the equity, efficiency, effectiveness and transparency of prioritization and triage processes at the Lynwood Charlton Centre lead agency

  • Open Doors for Lanark Children and Youth (Carleton Place) — Creating client value: Community service care pathways process improvement project

  • Maltby Centre (Kingston) — Improving pathways for Section 23 classrooms in KFL&A

  • Child Development Institute (Toronto) — Improving discharge planning: A strategy to reduce wait times in two of CDI's flagship programs

  • Aisling Discoveries (Scarborough) — A quality improvement project for Children's Mental Health Intake Process at Aisling Discoveries

  • Crossroads Children's Mental Health Centre (Ottawa) — Improving access at Crossroads Children’s Mental Health Centre

  • Vanier Children's Services (London) — Live-in service system navigation in the London-Middlesex and surrounding areas

The program involves in-person and virtual group learning sessions, along with tailored, individual QI coaching. Quest is offered free of charge to participating organizations, and cohort team members are provided with Lean Six Sigma yellow belt training and certification. Participating organizations also receive a small grant to support their engagement in the program.

Quest will run for 16 months, building organizational capacity for QI and a culture of continuous quality improvement within the involved organizations. This will be followed by four months of support focused on sustainability, scalability, spread and knowledge mobilization.
